Your mouth is a window into what goes into the rest of your body. Good oral hygiene is more than a healthy smile or keeping your breath fresh and minty. Good oral hygiene is a mouth that looks and smells healthy. This means that your teeth are clean and free of debris, your gums are pink and do not hurt when you brush or floss and bad breath is not a constant problem.

Why is good oral hygiene important?

Because healthy teeth is a confidence booster that enables you to speak, eat, feel and look good all the time.

There are simple steps that each of us can take to maintain a good oral hygiene and avoid dental problems. These include:

  • Brushing thoroughly twice a day and flossing daily
  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks between meals
  • Using dental products that contain fluoride, including toothpaste
  • Rinsing with a fluoride mouth rinse if your dentist advises

Good hygiene prevents bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. Also, having a cleaning done every six months can help maintain oral hygiene and prevent many dental diseases. Remember, your dentists looks after your teeth, bone structure and can spot problem areas and treat any issues before they become problematic. Visiting your dentist regularly can also help by telling you ways you can improve oral care techniques between visits.

Having good oral hygiene is essential to your wellbeing. It is very important that you schedule your routine visits to your dentists every six months.

There are two types of tooth extraction;

Simple extraction:  This is the most common type of extraction and is straight forward. Used when the tooth is visible or loose in the mouth.

Due to tooth whitenings incredible popularity there is a plethora of whitening products on the market. However, many products are inferior, performed by unqualified personnel or simply do not work.

White Smile Dental provides complete, impartial advice if you are considering a laser teeth whitening treatment.

Here’s are the top three things you need to know about teeth whitening;

  1. Laser teeth whitening is the most effective way to whiten teeth quickly.
  2. Take home kits (trays) are excellent for maintaining your new shade after laser teeth whitening but can also be used as a standalone product to whiten teeth.
  3. Laser teeth whitening is usually completely pain free. It is safe, easy, and does not damage the enamel.

How Does Teeth whitening Work?
Teeth whitening generally occurs when Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is exposed to the enamel and dentine of a tooth (the layer directly under the enamel). When Hydrogen Peroxide penetrates through the enamel, pigmentation found in the dentine tube oxidizes rendering a white finish which is reflected through the translucent enamel.
